Catalogue Contents
The catalogue has been launched with the collections from around 35 companies involved in the iron and steel industry across the Teesside
area. These records are rich and varied in their nature containing staff records, financial records, minute books, photographs, plans and many other items with dates
ranging from around 1850 through to 1967.
These collections include such notable companies as Cargo Fleet Iron Co. Ltd. (BS.CFI), South Durham Steel and Iron Co. Ltd. (BS.SDS)
, Bell Brothers Ltd. (BS.BB) and Teesside Bridge and
Engineering Ltd. (BS.TSB) but also some smaller companies such as Bowesfield Steel Co. Ltd.(BS.BOW) and Seaton Carew Iron Co. Ltd.(BS.SCIC)
The collections were catalogued as part of the British Steel
Archive Project, and in the coming months a further 15 collections will be added to the catalogue from companies such as
Dorman, Long and Co. Ltd, Bolckow Vaughan Co. Ltd., Skinningrove Iron Co. Ltd. and North Eastern Steel Co. Ltd..
Further Additions
In the near future we will be adding more collections to the online catalogue. These will include;
Council Records: Records of Middlesbrough, Stockton, Redcar and Hartlepool Borough Councils, and their predecessors,
and urban and rural district councils prior to 1974. Records included are minute books, financial records including rate books,
building plans, school records, workhouse registers and maps and plans.
Church Records: Records of Anglican, Roman Catholic and Non-Conformist churches, including registers of baptisms,
marriages and burials.
Legal Records: Quarter Sessions records, Petty Sessions records.
School Records: including log books and admissions registers.
